Schleuderballspiel

Schleuderballspiel is a gymnastics game, which means it was developed in the German Gymnastics Association (DT). The game was first introduced by gymnasts from Berlin at the German Gymnastics Festival in Hamburg in 1898.

Schleuderballspiel (also known as Treibball) is a dynamic ball game between two parties of eight players on a 100 x 15 metre grass pitch, in which the aim is to throw the ball over the opponent's end of the field, which is known as the goal line. The equipment used is a ball with a handle loop, usually a leather ball filled with horsehair or deer resin and weighing between 0.6 and 1.5 kg, depending on the age group.

A special feature of Schleuderballspiel is the disembodied style of play. As long as a thrower holds the ball in his hand, the opponent may only come within 3 metres of him. It is strictly forbidden to prevent the opponent from catching, throwing or running.
